The Black Star chicken is an excellent brown egg-laying breed very similar in quality and characteristics to our Red Star chickens. They have a gentle demeanor and good feed-conversion ratio while laying eggs year-round. There is a large variance in plumage coloring, with some being nearly all black, and others being 50:50 orange and black. They lay light brown eggs, and start earlier than other breeds, at roughly 22 weeks.
